Windows

I make windows on a commissioned basis for houses and boats. I use a technique of laminating decorative glass to safety glass, so that my panels conform to building regulations and boat safety requirements. Please contact me if you are interested in a bespoke window panel.

Houses

I can make windows for houses as single, double or triple glazed units. The units are constructed by Worksop company Master Glass.

‘Tranquility’ at Swan House

‘Tranquility’ is the title of these commissioned door panels that I made for the owners of ‘Swan House’. The photos show highlights from the process of making the panels.

  • The completed door panels installed in the customers' home. View from the inside in daylight, showing the top panel with the name Swan House and the bottom panel with a single swan on the canal.
  • Large bottom panel early in the making progress before firing. Swan is in colour. The trees and canal bank are in black outlined.
  • Early stage in the make with the black for the foliage complete and the swan in detail.
  • Tree branch section of glass in the kiln before firing with glass frit for the leaves.
  • Close up of the swan and tree from the bottom panel. This is before the glass is fired to create the tree.
  • Bottom panel in construction. Several sections are fired, but others are waiting to be put in the kiln
  • Top door panel with the house name 'Swan House' and 2 swans in flight.
  • Kate with the large bottom panel before it is made into the double-glazed unit.
  • Completed large panel in the back of the customers' car for the journey to its new home
  • Door panels installed in the customers' home. The white of the swans in prominent against the background of the canal and sky
  • Door panels installed in the customers' home. The background of the sky and canal is subdued, but the swans are highlighted.
  • The completed door panels installed in the customers' home. View from the outside at nighttime.
  • Brass plate installed by the customers saying 'Tranquility by Kathryn Webley'

Boat Panels

I can make fused glass boat door panels for new boats under construction or to be retro fitted to an older boat. I have worked with a number of boat builders including Braidbar, Cain Narrowboats, TriStar, Finesse, Aqua, Colecraft, Bourne Boatbuilders and Boating Leisure Services. My windows have twice featured in the boats that have won Favourite Narrowboat at the Crick Boat Show; in 2019 on ‘Two Hoots’ from Boating Leisure Services and in 2017 on ‘Threpence Ha’penny’ by Bourne Boatbuilders.

Luna Moonbeam Project

Here is a slide show for this project where I dusted off my woodworking skills and made both the glass and oak frames for bow and stern doors on the boat.

  • Completed stern doors with the glass showing a sunset on a river with bull rushes
  • The bow door panels with the glass in a 'Moonrise ' design,
  • Kathryn on the shell of the boat measuring the gap for the bow doors.
  • Kathryn using a router to make the rebate in the wood to fit the glass
  • The wooden frames for the door frames clamped whilst the glue is drying
  • Varnish drying on the wooden frames for the doors.
  • Kathryn holding the 2 panels to the light to show the river bank design.
  • Kathryn standing on the gunwale of the boat checking the door frames fit.
  • Kathryn cleaning the glass before installing the panels
  • Kathryn sitting on the bow of the boat fitting the door panels.
  • Stern doors open showing the design on the glass with the river bank and vibrant sky.
  • The finished doors with the glass showing the moon amongst trees.
