Outdoor Sculpture

In the Summer of 2020 I received an a-n The Artists Information Company and Arts Council England bursary to develop outdoor sculpture. Thanks to this bursary, I have moved my work to developed a whole new area of work. I make the complete all these sculptures myself, including welding the metal for the frames!

‘Diversity Sculpture’ at Idle Valley Nature Reserve

The Sculpture created by the project ‘Bassetlaw Pride Sculpture’. The project resulted from a successful bid by Harworth and Bircotes Pride for Arts and Heritage Funding from Bassetlaw District Council, as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. I was the Artist for the project and am a Harworth and Bircotes Pride Committee Member.

The theme of the sculpture is Diversity. The sculpture reflects diversity in nature and was created by a diverse range of nearly 150 people from Bassetlaw who were involved in the project. This included members of LGBT+ community, allies and community groups from Harworth and Bircotes. Over 200 visitors to Idle Valley voted to choose their favourite design for the sculpture. It was unveiled in June 2025 by Bassetlaw’s MP Jo White.

This sculpture is based upon the colours I see reflected in the canal at sunset. I particularly enjoyed constructing the metal frame to support the glass. I think I’ve succeeded in the sculpture looking very different depending upon where it is viewed from.
The sculpture is available for purchase, please contact me if you are interested.

‘Moonlit Tree’ Outdoor Sculpture

I have been experimenting with making night time scenes. With this sculpture I have incorporated the metal work into the design, rather than just using it to frame the glass. It is made from fused glass, framed in mild steel painted black. It is available for purchase priced £650. Dimensions are 100cm h x 54cm w x 30cm d. Please contact me if you are interested.

Just 10 minutes walk along the towpath from my boat mooring on the Chesterfield Canal, is a River Ryton flood plain. This sculpture is based upon sunlight reflecting on the seed heads of grasses growing across the flood plain. It is made from fused glass, framed in mild steel painted black. The frame is constructed to allow the sculpture to oscillate in a breeze. Dimensions are 110cm h x 50cm w x 30cm d. This sculpture has been sold, but please contact me if you are interested in something similar.

In addition to the nature scenes I observe on the canal, I love the patterns created by light on the surface of the water.
